Simon Bolivar Foundation Inc. was established in 2006 and is the 501(c)(3) non-profit private foundation of CITGO Petroleum Corporation. The Foundation exists primarily to give the gift of hope to those in need, including those who are critically ill and unable to pay for medical treatment. To do this, the Foundation provides access to specialized medical treatment and financial assistance to qualified patients in need by relieving the burden of excessive medical costs for patients and their families located in various countries. Specialized treatments are provided in collaboration with our worldwide network of hospitals and medical institutions. The Foundation’s assistance also includes travel, housing, living expenses, medical devices, and prescriptions.
The Foundation has helped numerous beneficiaries and has expanded its offering of medical assistance programs for liver transplants, bone marrow transplants, auditory implants, among other medical services.
The Foundation also donates medical equipment, supplies and medicines to hospitals and medical institutions that serve the medical needs of the communities in the U.S. and Venezuela.
In addition to its other charitable programs, the Foundation has provided disaster relief assistance to those in need in Haiti, Venezuela and the Philippines.
CITGO employees volunteer their time to the Foundation in providing support for its charitable programs and also in the areas of operational, legal, tax, accounting and other services.
Thanks to the personnel and financial support from CITGO, the Simon Bolívar Foundation makes the gift of its charitable grants a palpable reality for many individuals and organizations.
